- Liwa Dawud, a rebel faction in Idlib province, pledged loyalty to the Islamic State and defected with 1,000 men, 10 tanks, and 150 vehicles.
- A June 26 letter from Ban Ki Moon to the UN Security Council that was just published revealed that the Syrian government handed 2 cylinders that contained Sarin gas to the UN, saying they were “abandoned chemical weapons” captured in rebel-territory.
- A car bomb blew up at the Bab al-Hawa crossing with Turkey, but no casualties were reported.
- The FSA factions of Aisha, Ibin al-Qa’im, and Ahl al-Athar in Albu Kumal lay down their arms and pledged loyalty to the IS.
- The Islamic Front said that it destroyed 3 tanks and inflicted serious casualties on government forces during an attack on checkpoints near the government-held al-Hamidiyah base in Idlib province.
- The Islamic Front said that in Rif Dimashq they killed 30 soldiers and captured a BMP when they captured positions near Khan al-Sheikh.
- 3 government soldiers were killed outside of Mleha in Rif Dimashq.
- The gas pipelines in the Jaroud area of Rif Dimashq were cut by unknown gunmen.
- Jabhat al-Nusra captured 4 fighters and confiscated weapons when they attacked an Islamic Front HQ in the town of Zayzun, Daraa.
- Demonstrations against pledging loyalty to the IS were held for the second day in al-Qureyyi, Deir Ez Zor province. The demonstrators also requested that the IS not enter the town. Demonstrations were also held in al-Sharea, al-Shhil, and al-Sh’yat.
- The government said that the checkpoints removed recently inside Damascus has nothing to do with security, but was instead done to get rid of extra checkpoints and keep 1 in front of every security branch.
- A rebel, an Arab non-Syrian rebel, a man, and his son were killed by a barrel bomb in Kafr Zita, Hama.
- Cape Ray, a US container ship, began destroying chemical weapons from Assad’s arsenal.
- Rebels seized a key group of buildings next to the Aleppo Central Prison.
- It was leaked that on June 28th, Lebanon arrested a spy-ring of 4 people associated with the Syrian opposition. The group was apparently supposed to spy on Hezbollah-held areas which would later be shelled.
