  • The ISIL retook western Deir Ez Zor city from Jahbat al-Nusra and other Islamic battalions.

  • The ISIL executed two men in Hatla in Deir Ez Zor province based on charges that their relatives fought for rebels and because weapons were found in their house.

  • The ISIL recaptured the village of al Halabiyah in Deir Ez Zor.

  • Majlis Shura al-Mujahideen, the coalition of the FSA, Islamic Front, and Jahbat al-Nusra, captured al Shola in Deir Ez Zor.

  • The Local Coordination Committees reported that 7 people were injured in Irbeen in Damascus province from “toxic gases” from government shelling. The symptoms reportedly did not match those of either chlorine or sarin.


  • 150 Kurdish students who were kidnapped by the ISIL last week as they traveled to take exams are being held in Manbij in Aleppo province.
        • It is not clear if they are being held as bargaining chips to push for the release of ISIL fighters held by the YPG. Other people have said that they have been sent to a workshop in Islamic law and will be released when they are done.
        • There are also reports that some female students and villagers have been released because the ISIL could not handle all of the prisoners.

  • Rebels took a government position near the village of Flita in Qalamoun, capturing anti-tank weapons and ammunition. Government forces have captured a significant amount of territory in the region since they began an offensive in November, but rebels still control much of the countryside.


  • China’s presidentXi Jinping, said that he supports an inclusive transitional government for Syria and that he would increase aid for refugees.

  • France’s presidentFrancois Hollande, said that 30 French citizens have died fighting in the Syrian war and called for increased haring of intelligence about western fighters in Syria.

Lebanese security sources said that Jahbat al-Nusra killed a 14 year old boy and threw his body out of their car near the border town of Arsal with a note that said “This is the punishment of he who curses God”. The boy apparently worked at a gas station and was abducted after he argued with the fighters as they filled up their water canisters at the station.


  • The Iron Dome fired for the first time on the Israeli border in an attempt to intercept a mortar shell from Syria. No damage or casualties were reported and the Israeli military said it was probably errant fire from election celebrations.

  • Mansor Osso, the leader of the Islamic Front in the Azzahra district of Aleppo was killed.

  • There was fighting between the YPG and ISIL in the village of Eto, west of Kobani.

  • King Abdallah of Jordan said he will not allow any attack on Syria from his borders.

  • Denmark spoke out against the Syrian government’s use of siege and starvation against civilians at the UN.

  • In Al-Raqqah the Thwar ar-Raqqa brigade captured Kihrbat al-Faras and al-Muhra in the suburbs of Tal Abyad. They are currently attempting to advance on the city.

  • Ahmad Ibrahim al-Khalifah, the ISIL emir in Maadan, which is in the eastern suburbs of ar-Raqqah and borders Deir Ez Zor, was badly injured during fighting with the Majlis Shura al-Mujahideen near Maadan in Khat al-Ksra.

  • Abu Usama, the son of Abu Ali Shar’i, who is the ISIL emir in Deir Ez Zor, was killed by the Majlis Shura al-Mujahideen near Maadan.
