  • US President Barack Obama condemned the Islamic State’s beheading of Peter Abdul-Rahman Kassig as an act of “pure evil”. 18 SAA soldiers were also beheaded in the video.

  • 14 members of the Syrian National Coalition will announce the formation of the National Accord, a new political bloc that will seek to restore the SNC’s role in serving the Syrian people in the revolution. The political agenda of the block will be revealed next week.

  • The Syrian Violations Documentation Center reported that it has documented the execution of 1429 people, most of whom were civilians, by the Islamic State within Syria since the caliphate was declared on June 29th.
    • At least 879 people, including 700 from the Sheitat Tribe that revolted against the IS over the summer, have been executed in Deir Ez Zor.

  • The Syrian government said that it agrees “in principle” for the UN’s proposed freeze zones that would put a stop to the fighting in localized areas, but that it needs more details before it can make a decision.

  • Mevlut Cavusoglu, the Turkish Foreign Minister, said that Turkey backs the removal of Assad, although “a clear policy on how to remove Assad has not arisen.”
