    •  A C-130 from the US Air Force flew from Erbil to Kobani and air-dropped 21 tons of weapons, ammo, and medical supplies into the city. The weapons and ammo were supplied by the Iraqi Kurdistan government.
      • Yesterday Recep Erdogan, the President of Turkey, said that he considers the PYD, the political party of which the YPG is the armed wing, to be a “terrorist organization”.
      • US Secretary of State John Kerry said that both he and President Obama has spoken with Turkish authorities beforehand  “to make it very, very clear this is not a shift of policy by the United States”.
        • Turkey has been extremely reluctant to allow military aid to the people fighting the IS around Kobani, fearing that it will strengthen the PKK, a Kurdish group within Turkey that has fought for Kurdish independence for 3 decades and which is considered a “terrorist organization” by both the US and Turkey.
      • Turkey said that its airspace had not been used for the drops.
    • Mevlut Cavusogly, the Turkish Foreign Minister, said that Turkey is allowing the passage of Peshmerga forces from Iraq through Turkey to reinforce Kobani.

  • Omar Khalid Shamtiya, a soldier from the Lebanese Armed Forces, has defected to Jabhat al-Nusra

  • Yesterday, rebels from the al-Omari Brigade assassinated Qaisar Habib, a media activist, in a hospital in Daraa.
    • In August there was a confrontation between Habib and Qais Qataina, the leader of the al-Omari Brigade, due to Habib’s criticisms of him. Habib shot and killed Qataina during the confrontation, allegedly after Qataina tried to force him into his car. Habib was then shot and wounded by Qataina’s guards.
    • He was in the hospital receiving treatment while he waited for a trial in a Sharia court.
    • The al-Omari brigade, which is a part of the FSA-affiliated Syrian Revolutionaries Front, said that it conducted the assassination because the Sharia court was dragging its feet.
