  • 23 soldiers died in fighting yesterday after the military launched an attack on Deir al-Adas in Daraa.
    • At least 2 barrel bombs were dropped on the town today.


  • 1 man died from government airstrikes in Inkhel in Daraa.

  • 3 people were killed by barrel bombs dropped on the town of Jasem in Daraa.

  • The Islamic State releaed a video titled Another Message to America and its Allies in which they beheaded Alan Henning, a British aid worker. At the end of the video is show Peter Kassig, an American, who the IS says will be next if the US does not stop operations against the IS.

    • Henning was abducted last December, shortly after he arrived in Syria as part of an aid convoy.
    • A Twitter account I follow, RamiAlLolah, said that he was probably killed on September 20th and the video was only released today, but I havn’t seen anybody else circulate that claim so far.

  • 6 people were killed, including a man, his wife, and their 2 children, by a barrel bomb dropped on the village of Ashkoy in Aleppo.


  • Fighting around Kobani in Aleppo has continued as the Islamic State keeps up its offensive.
    • The city has been heavily shelled by the IS.
    • 7 IS fighters were killed by the YPG on the outskirts of Qarah Halinj, just south of the city: http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=36.853458&lon=38.379192&z=14&m=b
    • At least 13 YPG fighters have died today.
    • The IS controls the southern and eastern entrances to the city.
    • Airstrikes hit the IS to the south and east of the city.

    • There are reports that Turkish border guards are refusing to let people cross into Turkey as they try to flee the fighting.
    • The IS is reportedly sending reinforcements, including armored vehicles, from Manbij, where they have been heavily targeted by coalition airstrikes.

    • The Islamic State has continued its media blackout of casualties and strike locations.
    • In al-Raqqa, 8 airstrikes hit the Tabqa Airbase.
      • The airbase, which was captured over the summer from the Syrian military, has been heavily targeted by the coalition airstrikes.
    • In Aleppo airstrikes hit IS positions south and east of Kobani.
    • In Deir Ez Zor airstrikes hit around al-Mayadin.

  • Rebels in Kafr Zita in Hama fire a MANPADS in an attempt to shoot down a government jet:

  • 14 people, including 3 children, were killed by airstrikes in Douma in Eastern Ghouta.
