  • Coalition airstrikes have continued in Syria.
    • An article by the International Business Times on the backlash the coalition has faced by striking Jabhat al-Nusra (the strikes were said to be specifically targeting the attached Khorasan group) and not targeting Assad’s forces: http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/us-led-airstrikes-force-isis-al-qaida-cooperate-1467485
    • Reuters wrote that it looks as if Mosin al-Fadhli, the head of the Khorasan group, was killed Monday in an airstrike. It has been speculated this week that he may have been killed. The US said that it is still trying to make sure that he did’t fake his death.

  • Abu Muhammad al-Jawlani, the leader of Jabhat al-Nusta, released an audio message today, less than a week after coalition airstrikes began:
    • He warns that the US has been trying to disrupt the Jihadi network in Syria through measures such as designating JaN as a “terrorist organization” even before it announced it was linked to al-Qaeda and creating leaders in the Syrian National Coalition who will follow the Western agenda. He also said that the 2 main reasons that the west took so long to intervene was because they were tired from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and they lacked a pretext, which has now been provided by the Islamic State. He warned people not to let the crimes and aggression of the Islamic State push them towards the West, and that if the West would stop its aggression against Muslims it will be safe from Jihadists.
