  • Coalition airstrikes continued in Syria today. Yesterday a large number of airstrikes hit Islamic State positions in al-Raqqa province.

    • Protests against coalition airstrikes were held in many places across Syria yesterday, including in areas like al-Houla in Homs and in Aleppo, which have seem massacres by the Syrian government. Many of the protests centered on anger that airstrikes have hit Jabhat al-Nusra, which fights with rebels against the IS and the government, but have not targeted the Syrian military.
      • The US said that the strikes were targetting the Khorasan group, an al-Qaeda group that was only announced by US Intelligence last week. The US has notoably not mentioned JaN, which is al-Qaeda’s Syrian affiliate.

    • Jabhat al-Nusra condemned the airstrikes against it today, saying “It’s not a war against al-Nusra Front, but rather a war against Islam.”

    • In Aleppo:

  • Fighting has continued around Kobani in Aleppo, where the Islamic State has been pushing to try and capture the largely Kurdish city.
    • Coalition airstrikes hit IS positions around the city today.
    • A man was killed in the eastern part of the city after shells from the IS hit it.

  • Fighting by the YPG against the Islamic State around the humanitarian corridor between Sengal and Rojava (Kurdish-controlled Syria):
