  • Heavy fighting around Jobar, next to Damascus, is still ongoing as the government continues its offensive on the city.

  • 5 people were killed by a surface-to-surface missile that hit Hazeh in Rif Dimashq.

  • Rebels continued advancing in their offensive in Quneitra:
  • Ibrahim Fahad al-Nuaimi, the commander for the FSA in south Syria, announced that the names of FSA-affiliated groups will be changed to numbers to reflect regular armies. He called on all rebel groups in southern Syria to join the Southern Front.

  • The commander and his staff of the 90th Brigade, which is stationed in Quneitra, was arrested by the government for his losses to rebels in the province.

  • 4 people, including a child and a rebel, were killed by airstrikes in Daraa on the town of al-Taiha.
  • 4 people were killed in Daraa by airstrikes on the town of Aqraba.

  • The Islamic State released 6 men in the town of Shill in Deir Ez Zor who were originally arrested for being relatives of fighters in rebel groups that are apposed to the IS.

  • Islamic State fighters were killed and 2 were injured in al-Bukamal in Deir Ez Zor after unknown gunmen shot them.

    • Ahrar al-Sham is a major part of the Islamic Front, with around 20,000 fighters. Hassan was the Political Head of the IF and proclaimed to be fighting for a state based on Islamic principles, but also wished to protect the rights of women, ethnic minorities, and religious minorities. Although the group itself advocates an extremely conservative interpretation of Islam.

    • No group has claimed credit for the attack. The Islamic State issued a statement asking its supporters to avoid attributing it to them.
    • It is not clear if the attack was a car bomb that detonated at the entrance to the bunker, or if it was somebody in the bunker wearing a suicide vest.
    • The meeting was to discuss strategies for fighting the IS.

  • 4 people were killed by airstrikes on Abu al-Duhur in Idlib province.

  • 3 children were killed and 3 children were wounded by airstrikes around the Abu al-Duhur Military Airport in Idlib.

  • The family of Abbas Medlej, the LAF soldier who was beheaded by the Islamic State a few days ago, has blamed the Lebanese government for failing to protect him, said that Islamist prisoners who are currently being held in the Roumieh prison should be executed, and also condemned the attacks that have been made against Syrian refugees within Lebanon in revenge for his execution.
    • Refugee camps in Labwe were set on fire by protestors, and cars carrying refugees have been attacked.
    • 27 Lebanese soldiers and policemen are still being held by the IS and Jabhat al-Nusra. They were origionally captured during recent fighting in Arsal.

  • The government made advances in Hama, capturing Zor Balhsein, Khattab, the Rahbet Khattab Army Base, parts of Helfaia, and Zor al-Masaleq.
  • Brigadier General Hassan Mohammed Alloush from the SAA was killed during fighting in Hama.

  • In Manbij in Aleppo, the Islamic State kidnapped 5 Kurdish civilians, and confiscated their houses and property, on charges of belonging to Kurdish political parties.

  • The Syrian National Coalition said that the Syrian opposition will fully cooperate with the US if it conducts airstrikes against the Islamic State within Syria “by providing key information about the IS headquarters and its military plans”.
    • The SNC plans to establish a “center” for military cooperation in the southern Turkey border town of Rihaniyya, which will include representatives from the countries that support the opposition. The plan is for this center to become the operations room for receiving information and planning attacks on the IS.
    • The US has discounted conducting extended airstrikes within Syria against the IS out of fear that it might allow th Syrian government to regian areas that it currently doesn’t have control over.

  • The YPG killed at least 6 IS fighters in clashes around Tel Abyad in al-Raqqa.
    • The fighting began after the IS launched 2 mortar shells from the village of Slip Qiran into the Kurdish village of al-Hurriyah, which is about 15 km west of Tel Abyad.

  •  Barack Obama is pushing a plan for a western-backed coalition to impose a no-fly zone over northern Syria  to combat the Islamic State by sending John Kerry, the Secretary of State, and Chuck Hagel, the Defense Secretary, to consult with NATO and Arab allies.
    • The plan is being pushed by Turkey, which sees it as a way to protect its border.
    • Iran will reportedly play a major role in any no-fly zone and is currently working with the US against the IS.

  • The US said that it has no information that Steven Sotloff, an American journalist who was beheaded by the Islamic State last week, was sold to the IS by a moderate rebel group, as many people have claimed.
