  • The Syrian military has reportedly lost over 100 soldiers this week in its offensive on Jobar, next to Damascus, which has included intense shelling and airstrikes. At least 27 airstrikes have been carried out today.

  • Members of the new cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Wael al-Halki, were sworn in.

  • Jabhat al-Nusra captured the Btaish checkpoint and the village of Btaish from the military in Hama.
    • The village is about 5 km from the Christian-majority city of Maharda that rebels are trying to capture. Rebels had taken the eastern part of the city on August 23, but retreated after heavy government shelling from the direction of Btaish around a week later.

  • Rebels broke into the Suleiman al-Halabi neighborhood of Aleppo and captured several buildings.
  • On Sunday, Israel said that it shot down a drone over the Golan Heights that had come from the Syrian side of the border, although they weren’t sure who had launched.

  • All of the UN Peacekeepers who were trapped on the Syrian side of the Quneitra-Golan Heights border crossing have been successfully evacuated, although negotiations are still ongoing for the 45 Peacekeepers who are being detained by Jabhat al-Nusra.
    • JaN is demanding its removal from a global terrorism list, compensation for 3 of its fighters who were killed by UN forces during the confrontations with the peacekeepers, and aid delivery to rebels in Eastern Ghouta. They said that the prisoners have been removed from battle areas and are being treated well.
    • The Philippines announced that it is removing its peacekeeping force from the area. The 70 peacekeepers who were besieged for 2 days by JaN were Filipinos. There are around 1,200 Peacekeepers in the Golan Heights area.

  • Heavy fighting is going on between rebels and government forces around the Quneitra border crossing and the nearby village of al-Hamiydiah.
  • 8 rebels died yesterday in fighting around the Wadi al-Def and al-Hamadeyyi military bases in Idlib province.

  • 5 people were killed by airstrikes on the city of Harem in Idlib.


  • The Islamic State released 20 people from prison in the town of Ayyash in Deir Ez Zor, saying they had repented their fighting against the IS.

  • The Islamic State is heavily shelling the Deir Ez Zor Military Airport.
    • The commander of the base, Brigadier General Issam Zahreddine has left the base to return to his hometown of Sweida.

  • The Islamic State sent a video to the Syrian government that demands the release of IS and IS-allies who are imprisoned by the government, in exchange for 11 soldiers shown in the video who were captured from the Tabqa Airbase in al-Raqqa.

  • 18 Syrian civilians who were kidnapped in Shmistar in the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon have been freed.
    • They were originally taken hostage by the family members of LAF soldiers who were captured by Jabhat al-Nusra and the Islamic State in Arsal.

  • On Sunday, Jabhat al-Nusra released four officers and a policeman that they had captured during the fighting in Arsal around a month ago.

  • 60,000 civilians are reported to have fled the Gweiran district of al-Hasakah city due to shelling and attacks by the YPG and government forces.
    • Government forces have now closed the entrances to the district and are preventing anyone from entering or leaving.

  • Mudar Hassan Khadur, a lawyer and pro-government activist, was arrested on Friday after launching a social-media campaign that called on the government to provide information about hundreds of missing soldiers.He began the campaign after the Islamic State captured the Tabqa Airbase in al-Raqqa, which received little attention from Syrian media.

  • The UN’s World Food Program said that it was able to give food aid to a record 4.1 million people in Syria in August, largely due to the greater amount of convoys that have been able to cross through Jordan and Turkey.
