  • The UN Peacekeepers who were detained by Jabhat al-Nusra yesterday at the border crossing at the Golan Heights were apparently taken prisoner because they were providing medical treatment to SAA soldiers who had retreated to their position.
    • The 75 other peacekeepers (yesterday it was reported as 81, but the number has apparently been revised) who are trapped on the Syrian side of the border are reported to have 2 weeks worth of food and water and are not planning on surrendering, although JaN has urged them to by using an English-speaking peacekeeper who was among those that they captured.

  • Government forces, including the SAA, NDF, and Hezbollah, have continued the ground assault on Jobar, which is next to Damascus, that began yesterday, along with heavy shelling and at least 17 air strikes.

  • The UN said that the number of Syrians who have fled the country as refugees has passed 3 million, with hundreds of thousands of more people likely having fled without registering as refugees.
    • 6.5 million people are displaced within the country. Syria’s pre-war population was 23 million people.
    • Lebanon has 1.14 million refugees, Turkey has 815,000, and Jordan has 608,000.
    • The UN also said that both the Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra are advancing on border crossings with Turkey, which could inhibit cross-border aid operations.

  • The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the Caliph of the Islamic State, has offered a grant of $1,200 and housing to IS members who wish to marry.

  • Qais Qatana, the commander of the al-Omari Brigades who was killed in the village of Jarin in Daraa yesterday, was killed by Qaiser Habib, a media activist.
    • Qatana had stopped to talk with Habib about criticisms he had made about a failed operation in the province that Qatana had led. The two began to fight, and Qatana ordered his guards to put Habib into his car. Shots were fired by Habib at some point during the fighting, killing Qatana. Habib was injured by 2 bullets that hit him in the groin and thigh.

  • 5 rebels were killed after their car was destroyed in Daraa on the road between the towns of al-Gharya and al-Sora.

  • 5 civilians, including 4 children from the same family, were killed by government shelling on the town of Kafr Basin in Idlib.

  • 4 rebels were killed and 9 were injured by an IED in Idlib between the towns of Addana and Hazra.

  • After Britain raised its “international terrorism threat level” today to its second highest level, the US Department of Homeland Security said that it is not aware of any specific threat posed to the US homeland by the Islamic State, although the IS and its supporters “have demonstrated the intent and capability to target American citizens overseas”.
    • The UK also said it is not aware of any “imminent” plot to attack British targets.
