  • The government conducted between 84 and 122 airstrikes on Islamic State positions. At least 31 IS fighters were killed, and an unknown number wounded.
    • The strikes included al-Raqqa, Deir Ez Zor, and Aleppo.
    • There were a reported 26 strikes on the IS stronghold of ar-Raqqa, including the Military Court House.
    • The airstrikes around al-Tabaqa in al-Raqqa killed 8 civilians and wounded 12. al-Tabaqa is adjacent to the al-Taqba Military Airport, which is the last significant government presence in al-Raqqa and which has been facing heavy shelling from the IS for the last week and a half.

  • 150 men from the Sheitat tribe have been detained by the Islamic State at the al-Omar Oilfield in Deir Ez Zor. 

  • 5 people were killed and 6 injured by barrel bombs dropped on the village of Tardin in Latakia.

  • 20 soldiers were killed in Daraya in Western Ghouta yesterday when rebels detonated a tunnel bomb under their building.

  • The Islamic State said that they captured a Japanese FSA fighter in northern Aleppo. They said that he claimed to be a photographer, but that he was armed.

  • The YPG said that it has given military training within Syria to hundreds of Yazidi volunteers who want to fight the Islamic State in Iraq in the last 2 weeks. 
    • The YPG trains them for several days in weapons and fighting tactics, and then sends them to Mt. Sengal, where the volunteers have formed Sengar Resistance Units. 
    • The Yazidis, who belong to a poorly-understood religion derived from Zoroastrianism, fled the IS when they began taking Yazidi territory to Mt. Sengal, where they were trapped and began to die of thirst after a few days. The YPG broke through to them and managed to evacuate most into Syria. Many refugees circled back into Iraq to camps in Kurdistan, but tens of thousands have established camps within Kurdish-controlled Syria as well.

  • At least 15 people were killed yesterday during fighting in the village of Dama in Sweida province.
    • 7 of the dead were Druze clerics.
    • Jabhat al-Nusra, along with Bedouin fighters, stormed the village among rising sectarian tensions in the area.
