  • Food aid was distributed in the government-besieged Yarmouk Refugee Camp in Damascus, although fighting between rebels and National Defense Force fighters backed up by soldiers also occurred. At least 1 soldier was killed by a sniper at the entrance to the camp.

  • 6 civilians, including a child, were killed by airstrikes on the town of al-Latamina in northern Hama.

  • The electricity to the Khan al-Sheikh refugee camp in Rif Dimashq was cut after a barrel bomb hit.

  • Rebels killed the commander of the 68th Brigade in fighting around their base just south of Damascus. 

  • 13 people were killed, including 5 children and a woman, and 20 people were injured by airstrikes on the al-Badu neighborhood in the city of ar-Raqqa, which is held by the Islamic State.

  • The IS announced that Christians in ar-Raqqa will receive money in order to repair damaged churches.

  • In Deir Ez Zor province, the Islamic State reportedly broke into a school in the that was housing a large number of displaced residents from Sheitat villages, arrested around 200 people, and executed many of them.

  • The NDF ambushed the IS in Deir Ez Zor province on the road linking the al-Kharrata Oilfield with the al-Shola area. At least 3 IS fighters were killed, and 2 are missing.

  • A demonstration was held in the IS-controlled town of al-Sha’fe in Deir Ez Zor that demanded that the IS leave.
    • 2 men from the al-Sh’ayta Tribe were beheaded by the IS in the town.

  • In Deir Ez Zor, the IS executed two men in al-Bolel for blasphemy and trampling on the Qu’ran. 2 other men from al-Mayadin were executed for “dealing with the apostates”.

  • Heavy fighting between the IS and YPG occurred in al-Hasakah in the south-east of the city.
  • Thousands of Yazidi refugees who were forced the flee from their villages in Iraq as the IS advanced on them have been crossing through Syria after the YPG was able to secure a passage off of Mt. Sengal, where they were trapped. Around 20,000 are estimated to be crossing through Syria right now so that they can loop back to the Bajid Kandala camp in Iraq.
    • 7,000 others are currently in a refugee camp outside the city of Qamishli. There are 2 other camps nearby that are also housing Yazidi refugees.

  • President Assad has reappointed Wael al-Halaki as the Prime Minister, and has asked him to form a cabinet.
    • Halaki was first appointed in 2012 after his predecessor, Riad Hijab, defected to the opposition.

  • Syrian refugees who fled the fighting around Arsal in Lebanon have begun to return to their homes in Syria, but many are being delayed as they wait for the official paperwork that will allow them to cross the border. There are around 2,000 people in all.

  • The IS began evacuating people from the villages surrounding the Kawaires Airbase in Aleppo.

  • 4 people were killed by 2 barrel bombs that hit the Qadi Ashar Sqaure in Aleppo.

  • In an interview with The Atlantic, Hillary Clinton said that the failure to help build up a credible fighting force out of the original protesters who came out against Assad in the beginning of the revolution created a vacuum that has allowed the IS to flourish.
