  • The Syrian National Coalition said that it rejects the announcement by the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) that it has appointed governors in the Al Jazeerah province, a move that will strengthen their push to become autonomous in northeastern Syria.

  • Hüseyin Avni Mutlu, the governor of Istanbul, said that new measures are being considered to deal with the increasing number of Syians who are living on the citiy’s streets, including sending them to camps in the southeast without their consent. The total number of Syrians in the city is around 67,000.

  • Bassam Ali Tabaja, a Hezbollah commander, was killed by rebels during fighting in Qalamoun. 

  • Government forces launched a failed assault to break through rebel lines in the town of Morek, Hama, which is located on the main highway connected Hama and Idlib provinces. The assault was preceded by airstrikes, after which ground troops conducted an attack from three different directions. Government troops took 60 casualties and lost 4 tanks.

  • Rebels isolated the al-Hamdyah and Wadi al-Dayf bases from each other in Idlib after taking 3 checkpoints.

  • Assad was sworn in for his next 7 year term.

  • The Kurdistan Tribune, citing local doctors and officials, said that chemical weapons may have been used against YPG fighters by the Islamic State during the fighting for Kobani. The YPG is asking for medical institutions and human rights organizations to come investigate the claims.

  • 10 government soldiers were killed by a Jabhat al-Nusra car bomb in Mleha.

  • 12 Islamic fighters were killed as rebels attempted to break a siege on a group of Islamic fighters in the city hospital around Mleha. 

  • 4 civilians were killed and 16 were wounded by mortars that fell on downtown Damascus.

  • 15 IS members were killed by government airstrikes in al-Raqqa on the al-Ekershi camp, which serves as an IS HQ.

  • The Hilal Hospital in the government-held Saif al-Dawla neighborhood of Aleppo was targeted by Islamic rebels firing mortars.
