  • Jabhat al-Nusra and the Islamic Front are reported to be working together in Qalamoun to fight Hezbollah.

  • 7 people in the outskirts of Arsal in northeast Lebanon were wounded when a Syrian helicopter fired 2 rockets.

  • 23 rebels were killed by Syrian and Lebanese forces attacking border crossings with Lebanon.

  • The IS captured and executed Abu al-Bara’, a Tunisian Jabhat al-Nusra Sharia official.

  • Rebels in Quneitra and Daraa began a campaign to capture Sheikh Sa’ad and the Brigade 61 base.
        • Rebels killed 26 government soldiers in the process of taking over the Transportation Brigade, which is a part of Brigade 61. They also captured 23 tanks, 27 military vehicles, 23 ATGMs, and 38 pieces of artillery.

  • 4 people in Tsel, Daraa, were killed by a barrel bomb.

  • The Islamic Front created a new battalion in Idlib called the Conqueror’s Battalion. It will be a rapid response force with tougher training requirements. Fighters will be paid $75, plus $25 if they have a wife, plus $10 for each child.

  • Government forces began to bomb their own warehouses in Wadi al-Dayf and the Hamidiyah military base in Idlib, possibly preparing to withdraw.

  • Rebels over-run a government position on the 13th. It’s a pretty cool video and worth watching. From what I could figure out it is near al-Hamdeh in Idlib, but I may be wrong.

  • The YPG destroyed 2 IS positions in the village of Beyadhe west of Kobani.

  • 100 Kurdish reinforcements from Turkey arrived to fight with the YPG in Kobani.

  • 4 civilians were killed by government shelling on the town of al-Atarib in Aleppo.

  • There has been notably heavy fighting around Aleppo Central Prison in the last 36 hours. Rebels have taken the agricultural and MTN buildings next to the prison.aleppo central prison 7-15-2014

  • Yesterday in Deir Ez Zor I erroneously said that Safwan a-Hent, the Jabhat al-Nusra emir in the city and the judge of the Sharia body, was killed while negotiating with the IS. That may have happened to somebody, but it now appears that he was killed by the IS while disguised as a woman in the town of Hatle, after being brought there by fighters who had secretly switched allegiance. He was shot as he attempted to detonate a suicide vest.

  • A commander of the Jund al-Aziz Brigade in Deir Ez Zor city, who was loyal to the IS before rebels withdrew, was tortured and killed by Jabhat al-Nusra before they left.

  • The IS arrested a member of the Sharia body in Deir Ez Zor.

  • The IS took over several oil wells in Deir Ez Zor controlled by tribal gunmen in Swedan Jazeera Badeya. One tribal family refused to turn their well over.

  • 5 government soldiers were killed and 10 were wounded by a bomb in Damascus that was placed in a dumpster next to a checkpoint in the al-Meidan neighborhood. 

  • Rebels took the al-Aarifah checkpoint and 3 buildings in Jobar next to Abbasyyn Sqaure, which is immediately adjacent to Damascus. 

  • Phillip Hammond, the new British Foreign Secretary, ruled out any possibility of cooperation with Assad and said that Britain would work with the moderate opposition.

  • 2 women and 2 security guards were killed by Israeli airstrikes on 3 military and administrative targets in Syria’s portion of the Golan Heights after the rocket from Syria landed in Israel’s portion of the Golan Heights yesterday.

  • There are rumors that rebel groups will begin to consolidate into one front in order to counter the IS. Monday the Islamic Front urged rebel groups to form a united organization.
