  • The Shura Council for the ISIL declared the restoration of the Caliphate and the changing of its name to the Islamic State (IS) with Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as its emir.

  • The Islamic Front expelled the ISIL a few hours before their change to the IS from a village near Adra in Eastern Ghouta. 

  • The Aleppo Sharia Commission released 37 prisoners early in recognition of the beginning of Ramadan.

  • Syrian state television broadcast the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand as breaking news after the BBC’s Arabic channel tweeted it to mark the 100th anniversary of his death. The station reported “20 injured as explosion targets Archdukes convoy”.

  • Ahmad Jarba is attempting to gather support for a vote of no confidence against Ahmad Tohme, the Prime Minister of the Interim Government. Last week Tohme dissolved the Supreme Military Council on charges of graft, but Jarba reversed the decision, saying the Prime Minister did not have that authority.

  • 13 non-commissioned officers, 2 captains, a lieutenant colonel, and a colonel from the Syrian military defected and fled across the border with Jordan with their families.

  • Rebels captured the Taana missile base in eastern Aleppomis 6-29-2014

  • 8 fighters from Jabhat al-Nusra were killed in fights with the IS in Albu Kamal.
