  • 594 people were killed in Syria last week, 176 of whom were combatants.

  • Syria shipped off the rest of its declared chemical weapons stockpile for destruction.

  • The ISIL began evacuating family members from its fighters in Jarabulus, on the border with Turkey, to Manbij about 30 km south.

  • Kurdish forces will hand over the Syria-Iraq border crossing of al-Ya’rubiyah/ Til Kocer to the ISIL in the next 24 hours.

  • There are reports that the ISIL has been able to recruit at least 200 people in rebel-held territory in Eastern Ghouta by offering them large sums of money.

  • The Islamic Front claimed to have killed 200 government fighters in Qalamoun after it made gains in the area, reversing some of the progress that the government’s offensive in the area has made.

  • The Islamic Front said that the ISIL attacked it in Douma, a suburb of Damascus. Two ISIL members wearing explosive vests entered a market and began handing out leaflets. When civilians attempted to stop them, they threatened to blow themselves up. The civilians ended up taking them to an Islamic Front checkpoint to be arrested and tried. The ISIL then attacked a second checkpoint in retaliation, killing and kidnapping some fighters.

  • The Human Rights Watch urged rebel groups to stop enlisting teenagers and warned their foreign backers that they could be tried for war crimes if the practice continues. The HRW said some children are recruited under the guise of a free education. The teenagers interviewed said they took part in combat, worked as snipers, manned checkpoints, spied, tended to the wounded, and carried supplies to the front line. Many of them said they had joined to follow their friends and family, and others said they joined after the government refused to let them protest peacefully in the initial stages of the uprising.

  • Tunisia’s Interior Ministry said at least 2,400 of its citizens are fighting in Syria, most of them for the ISIL.

  • Ali al-Sheikh, a Syrian Parliament member, was killed when The Islamic Union of Levant Soldiers, an Islamist group based in Eastern Ghouta, detonated a bomb under his car in central Damascus after a month of monitoring his movements. He was considered a key member of the parliament who contributed to Assad’s brutal crackdown on the initial protests in 2011.

  • The ISIL is evacuating civilians from the towns of Kesham and Tabia in Deir Ez Zor after it declared them “military areas”.
